A traditional Indian meal generally consists of several dishes that appear on the table at the same time. Those who eat along can then choose how much they eat and in what order. The table usually consists of a meat or fish dish, or both, in combination with all kinds of separate vegetable dishes, bread or rice, a salad, yogurt and some chutneys and pickles. With a vegetarian meal, vegetable dishes are mainly made with lentils and/or other legumes. Gaby gave us a variety of Indian family recipes to fill the table.
Tip: We ate frozen naan bread and paratha (a kind of light naan) from the freezer. These are much tastier and fresher than the naan from the supermarket. You can get both at the store. We bought them at the Amazing Oriental in Rotterdam.
