This recipe is super easy and much tastier than the (sometimes too sweet) satay sauce from the supermarket! But do you call it satay sauce or peanut sauce? Although both names refer to the brown sauce made from peanuts that you eat with your satay (such as satay babi ), the official name is peanut sauce. Satay sauce can also refer to other sauces that are served on a wooden skewer with cubes of meat. In Indonesia it is also common to eat a ketjap-based sauce with your satay. We know that again. This peanut sauce is also delicious with bami goreng , but in the Netherlands we also love it with a sandwich or fries.
Preparation
Finely chop the garlic and chop the white onion.
Place a pan on the stove, add oil and fry the onion and garlic.
Add the sambal oelek and fry it briefly, so that all the flavors are released.
Add the peanut butter, ketjap and a little water and stir the mixture well and let it simmer for a minute.
Finally, add lemon juice to taste. Season to taste with salt and white pepper.
If the substance of the satay sauce is too thick, add a little more water.
